The all-around climbing harness from Swiss company Mammut is perfect for intermediate climbing and is a good update on the Togir 3 Slide.

PROS
- Lightweight
- Comfortable
- Durable
CONS
- Bulky for hard climbing
- Could have done with an extra retainer loop on leg loop.
Harnesses can be a very personal affair and it has been known for me to have owned three different ones for different types of climbing. These days I’m far more practical and am happy to sacrifice some weight to use a harness that will perform in all the climbing activities I enjoy.
The Mammut Togir 2.0 3 Slide is a quality harness that is suited to the intermediate climber who wants a ‘do it all’ harness. This harness will do just that, it has all the features you need to enjoy sport, trad and winter climbing. If you want to climb a big wall or hard sport then maybe this isn’t the ideal harness – but if I was planning a trip to Yosemite then I’d buy a specialist big wall harness. As far as hard sport – my days of that are pretty much over (I seem to get injured when I pull hard for stain periods these days).

The split webbing offers a comfortable experience for all styles of climbing. Here the harness is being used for sport climbing.
OK, down to business – The Togir 2.0 is light, comfortable and has good features these include two large rubberised gear loops at the front that will easily hold up to ten quickdraws on either side, the offset angle means that when a quickdraw has been used the next one drops into place, perfect for sport climbing. Trad works well too as I kept all the deployable kit such as cams and wires on the large loops and there was enough room left over for a few quickdraws. The rear two loops held just quickdraw, screw gates and belay device as well as room for some ab tat and prussicks on longer trad routes. Then there is a small gear loop for either more ab tat or (more likely) a chalk bag. I have my chalk bag on ab tat so I used it to keep my prussicks and a small knife on. Above that there is a very small hanging loop for hanging in the drying room (or garage) to dry out. Finishing off gear storage, there are two ice clipper loops at the very front, these are bar tacked on and slightly stiffened. So all styles of climbing are catered and I feel the harness is well featured.

The gear loops are plenty big enough for sport and trad climbing.
In terms of comfort, the harness is soft and supple and will mould to most back shapes. At 380g it feels light enough without feeling bulky when climbing. The material is hard-wearing polyamide and is used both on the belt and leg loops. The leg loops are wide enough to feel comfortable when hanging and don’t feel like they were cutting into my legs for extended route work. The inner is perforated to help wick away any sweat on those Spanish sun rock trips. Materials are Bluesign certified and the manufacture is also Fair Wear certified which is great for a harness as they are complicated items of kit.
With its navy blue and organ detail it looks good too, nicely understood and not brash looking.
The leg loops are fully adjustable with slide buckles and the size large fitted my slim legs (just about but, for me the harness is sized for winter) even with shorts. There was plenty of adjustment for larger thighs and the sliding buckle kept the loops firmly in place. There is an elasticated retaining loop to keep excess loop webbing tidy and I feel another would have helped, there are two on the waistbelt so that does help keep that area tidy. Rear adjustment is via elasticated retainers with a solid metal hook and elasticated loop. This can be easily adjusted when wearing the harness and dropped for a toilet visit.

Super comfortable for all day use when trad climbing.
At the front end, it’s all business: the waist belt has plenty of adjustment and an excellent slide buckle that together with the ridged webbing means the harness doesn’t subtly loosen and stays in place. The tie-in loops are well made and burly with plenty of bar tacking and reinforcement, the lower loop has a plastic insert for extra durability and the belay loop has an indicator that shows when the harness is due for replacement. I like the front of the harness and it offers confidence that once I’m tied in correctly I’m as safe as I can be.
So, the Mammut Togir 2.0 Slide 3 Harness is a great all-around harness that will perform great for many climbing activities. It may not be the lightest harness out there but it is comfortable, has some great features and should prove faithful for many years of adventures.
The Mammut Togir 2.0 Slide 3 Harness comes in 4 sizes S-XL for men and two colour options.
