It was just over a year ago when I tested and reviewed the PETZL CORAX harness, which I found to be an excellent, all-around climbing and technical mountaineering harness. Since then, we have featured the super light SITTA harness, and now we are featuring the ADJAMA – a fully adjustable harness designed for technical rock climbing.
The harness is new for this season and replaces the older blue ADJAMA harness, bringing it right up to date. The harness is designed as a true all-rounder – versatile enough for single pitch trad and sport climbing to multi pitch adventures, as well as indoor climbing. It has generous front gear loops which are stiffened and slightly downward slanting to deliver quickdraws just when you need them when sport climbing. They are generous enough to hold 7 or 8 quickdraws on each side or a good rack of trad climbing gear such as wires, cams and a few quickdraws.

There are then three further gear loops which are softer and also generous in size, so you will find no problems with large trad racks. On top of that, there is a small flattened loop for attaching a chalk bag if that is how you prefer to rack one. All the loops feel burly and are bar tacked in a circular pattern for maximum durability. The new ADJAMA is also CARITOOL EVO compatible, so perfectly able to rack ice screws for the winter climbers out there.
The waist belt has undergone a total redesign for the new version, featuring a new frame construction, a tapered design, and smooth-seamed edges that offer excellent comfort for all-day wear, whether just climbing and belaying on single-pitch days or spending time hanging on multi-pitch climbs. I found the new design super comfortable, there’s no mesh backing on the waist belt, so it has felt a little sweaty in the recent hot weather but generally, it’s become much better now that cooler weather has arrived.
So, not total breathability but then it’s not performance wear, it’s a safety item, so I’d rather be sweaty and safe. The inner material is designed to help wick away sweat, and although it has got damp at times, it has dried out super quickly.

The PETZL ADJAMA is a fully adjustable harness, and both the waist belt and leg loops can be adjusted with DOUBLEBACK buckles. They have been smooth to both tighten and loosen, and the Medium size I have been testing is suitable for a 31-34 inch waist. I can fluctuate a little these days (but I have lost a little weight this season) and sometimes can be a 33” waist, but the medium has been fine and fits like a dream. I like the tapered design, and the cut out at the back still offers ample back support. The excess tape can be captured with both an elastic loop and two fixed loops on the belt. It is a left-handed adjustment.
The leg loops are made using the same frame construction, and the width feels just right for extended sessions of belaying or working projects. There is an elasticated loop for catching excess tape as well as a larger loop for those lucky enough to have skinny legs. The adjustment range is good, and the medium should accommodate a variety of thigh widths. The leg loops are finished with separate, elasticated rear adjusters. These have an easy-to-use buckle so that if you need to drop the loops for that impromptu toilet stop then you can do it quite straightforwardly. No fiddly hook and loop fitting to annoy you when you still have 5 pitches to go!
Now onto the business end of the harness, the tie-in loops and belay loop. As you would expect with a CE certified to EN12277 harness, the tie-in loops and belay loops are burly and well stitched, which inspires confidence to take that fall if you have to. The tie-in loops have zig-zag stitched covering to help counter wear from rope friction. It is important to know that you should replace a rock climbing harness if this protection layer is showing wear, especially if it has worn through and you can see the webbing underneath. The belay loop is double thickness and again has a ton of stitching. I also like the interior tape on both the waist and leg loops which helps keep the wear on the tape from buckle friction in check, a nice touch and typical of PETZL’s attention to detail.

The new 2025 ADJAMA weighs in at 385g (size Medium), which is 20% lighter than the older blue version. This lightweight climbing harness is a solid harness that is a great all-rounder for intermediate climbers and a great addition to the PETZL harness range. It’s very difficult to make safety equipment sustainable as it’s definitely safety first, but Petzl have managed to make the exterior fabric from 100% recycled polyester. The harness also comes with a great storage pouch for easy organizing in your pack.
The PETZL ADJAMA harness comes in sizes S-XL and one colour option – Red. The women’s specific version is called the LUNA harness and comes in sizes XS-L and colour Coral Red. The SRP is £90 for both, and it can be purchased from specialist retailers.
