It’s been a while since we featured any Sherpa kit on the site – we love the whole concept of Sherpa making and selling kit to fund their communities and schooling their children. So we are happy to work with them any time.

The Sherpa Bara pants are, to be honest, the best hiking pants I have used for some time. They have proved to be very versatile and I have used them for hiking, climbing and mountaineering as well as cycling to my local indoor climbing gym throughout spring.

The first comment to make is that you will need to get the sizing right. I’m in between sizes (a 33” waist) so I sized down to a 32 and not a 34, this proved the right decision as a 34 was very big on me and even with the 32 I have needed to use a belt. So if in doubt size lower than your normal waist size. The pants only come in a regular leg length too so L32 is the standard inseam, I have had mine professionally taken up to L30 otherwise I found them bunching up at the bottom and with the the slim fit leg it didn’t look right (I understand that for some folk that isn’t an issue) and if you are a short leg length you might want to do that too.

The Bara Pants offered some wind resistance on breezy days on the hill.

The style is very much slim fit, almost verging on skinny. This offers a nice firm fit around the legs and the well placed side pocket works well as it sits firm against the thigh. I’ve been very disappointed with some pants recently where the side pocket come over to the front of the thigh which is annoying when I put my phone in it. The side pocket sits just like the pocket on cargo pants but is flat and not bellowed – a nice feature. So the style is very modern which makes the Bara pants well suited for travel and lifestyle wear – these will become my go to pants for air or train travel for many adventures to come.

I’ve used these pants for quite a few climbing sessions both indoors and out and have found them fine, the added Spandex and articulated knees have helped but I feel they could do with a diamond crotch for those high steps.

The cut was nice for climbing although a diamond crotch would have helped with the high steps.

The Bara pants are made from tough and durable Nylon with 9% Spandex for maximum stretch. The Nylon content is 56% recycled and 35% virgin material and the weave produces a tough yet supple material. The pants also have a SPF40+ rating so are suitable for sunny climates and glacier hiking. and the weave blocks most wind without compromising too much on breathability.

I have liked the weave and material of these pants and they have some nice features such as a reinforced heel patch, internal drawstring (which is useful when wearing a climbing harness), two rear zipped pockets, the side zipped thigh pocket, chino style slanted pockets which are riveted for durability and riveted waist button. All pockets are meshed to aid breathability and the zips have neat zip garages to help keep zips flush.

On top of that there are some nice, cosmetic finishing touches: a discreet Infinite Knot Sherpa logo on the rivets and embroidered logo at the rear and an ethnic style tape on the fly which is a metal YKK zip. Every purchase you make provides a day of schooling for a Sherpa child so you can be sure your pants are helping to give back to the Sherpa community and provides an income in the off season.

The Sherpa Bara Pants come in sizes XS to XL and two colour options.

There is a female specific version the Bara Tapered Pant. These come in sizes XXs – XXL and 2 colour options. ThSRP for these is £90.

The SRP is £100 and they can be purchased directly from Sherpa UK and specialist retailers.
