BLOG: Mooching Around Ingleborough

A beautiful cairn off the top of Little Ingleborough; you'd never know it was there.

It never fails to astonish me how easy it is to lose people and be on your own in The Dales, even somewhere as busy as Ingleborough. Went out today taking photos for an article on The 3 Peaks (which will be live on the site this week). I’d been fighting a real nasty cold all week and just needed to mooch around at my own pace. The weather was reasonable but persistent low cloud meant it was a day for micro scenery, not big views. Headed over from Newby around to the weird cairns  (I’ve no idea why these are there) and up onto Litttle Ingleborough. With the wind picking up I headed for the summit, to meet the first people. It was very windy, so I didn’t hang around and headed down for lunch at Gaping Ghyll. The temperature and people count soared, so I headed back to the car via Trow Gill, which looked surprisingly dry.
